Maintenance is a costly issue, but life-cycle ownership costs are higher. Costs for acquiring equipment and salaries/benefits for operating clinical equipment are significant. In addition, reliability problems can create schedule and patient disruptions which degrade the quality of care. The JANNX program provides support to control and reduce these ownership costs. Strategic Technology Planning and JANNX procurement assistance reduces these costs. In addition, standards for device reliability and failure history analysis identify opportunities for corrective actions designed to improve cost and quality.
How Costs are Reduced
The Asset Management program can and has reduced maintenance costs by approximately 30%. The three (3) program elements responsible for this large reduction are:
- National Logistics & Support Center (NL&SC) – reduces costs by over 10%
- In-house BMET Participation – lowers labor and travel costs…a 10% reduction
- Standard & Corrective Actions – Identifies the problem & areas of opportunity to direct corrections…a 10% reduction
